About DRC International

WHO WE ARE
Since its founding in 1994, DRC, an international distribution company, has specialized in providing industrial equipment, supplies, and related services to mining and construction operations in the Russian Far East.

Striving to seek out new markets and different areas of specialty, DRC has begun to replicate its success on Sakhalin Island through DSG.  A professional support staff and dedicated sales and marketing staff, has allowed DSG the competitive edge. DRC is continually moving forward and entering new arenas and addressing different areas of specialty other than industrial equipment.

Few American companies have achieved success in Russia however; DRC is unique in what they have accomplished. To many it would appear absurd to build a company that relied solely on the Russian market. However DRC, different from the rest, founded a business which has become extremely successful. Establishing business ties in the former Soviet Union, now Russia has been a unique and successful venture for DRC, which has poised them for new endeavors in the future.

DRC has proven many wrong and opened many eyes with their accomplishments. They have been able to successfully penetrate the Russian market through a devoted and dynamic sales staff, positioned strategically in cities throughout Russia.

Inclusive to the success of the sales staff, DRC is supported with professional and specialized service from their Seattle headquarters. Naturally, all successful companies have a tremendous back room for support.

Integrity and Quality
Integrity is a quality that DRC has built the company upon. Their belief in putting the customer first, providing best price, best quality, and superior service has been the mindset since their inception. This has propelled DRC to the forefront of industrial equipment distribution in Russia. Customers have come to expect DRC's level of service, and continue to show loyalty.

DRC's experience in the industry has allowed them to establish an extensive supplier network through distributors and manufacturers, providing the best price and quality to their customers.

DRC's Specialty
DRC is headquartered in Seattle, Washington with international offices in Sakhalin Island, Mongolia and Khabarovsk.  WE are due to open new operations in Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan in 2008.

DRC's specialties involve the distribution of industrial equipment. DRC essentially brokers for the customer the best prices on different products necessary to suit individual customer's needs.

Various support departments (research, procurement, warehouse, traffic, and marketing) allow DRC to research different areas and arrive at the best quality and alternatives for our customers. DRC is striving to become the distribution company that can suit all customers' needs.

DRC BACKGROUND
DRC International, Inc., was formed in 1994 to sell American industrial products and supplies to resource extraction industries in Russia.  The opening of Russia to commerce following the fall of the Soviet Union created opportunities to supply these enterprises, particularly in Eastern Russia.  They needed specialized industrial equipment and supplies not readily available there.  Importantly, these enterprises could generate the hard currency that would enable them to purchase such products from foreign suppliers.

DRC's first customers were gold and diamond mines, logging operations, commercial fishing fleets, and oil fields. By its second year of operation, DRC recorded annual sales of $6 million.  Revenues for 2003 exceeded $10 million.

The company operates sales offices in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the Russian Far East, and Western Russia. DRC also operates an office in Ulaan-Baataar to serve Mongolia.

Since late 1997, several large resource extraction projects have been launched and funded by established Western companies.  The most prominent of these are the Sakhalin Island oil and gas production projects, and the Caspian Sea Pipeline construction/refurbishment project.  Both projects are run by large Western engineering firms and utilize Russian labor and as much Russian product content as possible.

DRC has been able to offer selected Russian products, but the vast bulk of products required for these projects still come from the west, and generally from the U.S.

DRC International, Inc., is a privately held company based in Seattle, WA, and practices GAAP standards.

Team Building
Selling equipment and industrial supplies in Russia is a very complex process.  To do it successfully requires mastery of complicated rules in customs, taxation, transportation, physical security, accounting standards, and banking.

Most Western companies approach this complexity by sending expatriate specialists who attempt to learn the local bureaucracy and business landscape while working through local interpreters who understand poorly the business or technology at hand.  This approach rarely works well because of the complexity of Russian bureaucracy, uniquely Russian ways of doing business, and the importance of long-term personal relationships in Russia.

DRC takes the opposite approach:  We hire the best local talent available, and then train them in the requisite Western business skills.  DRC routinely puts its Russian staff through specialized training courses in areas such as strategic selling, western accounting, and project management.

This approach has served DRC well, and provides one more competitive advantage. There are no expatriates among DRC's 40 employees in Russia and Mongolia.  DRC's senior Russian managers own equity stakes in the company.  DRC is in Russia for the long haul and has invested in the assets that will provide a lasting competitive advantage and enable the company to become a dominant market presence in its field.

Lines of Business
DRC's oldest line of business is replacement parts for western machinery.  These parts are sold to mines and timber operations in Russia.  This business supports two categories of customers:
1.      Russian enterprises that began purchasing western equipment during the end of the Soviet era.  These enterprises include gold mines, diamond mines, timber operations, oil and gas enterprises, and commercial fishing fleets.
2.      Foreign enterprises or foreign-funded enterprises that have established themselves in Russia since 1992.  The largest group of these is in the oil and gas industry, in exploration, production, and transportation.
Other extractive industries are also represented.
